How does Acupuncture work for fertility?
Acupuncture is rooted in science, when you insert a needle into an area it activates the local nerves, which then send messages to the brain via the central nervous system. From the brain messages then go out to other systems, such as hormonal and reproductive systems aka your ovaries & uterus! It also affects your immune, digestive and cardiovascular systems amongst others. As acupuncturists our job is to select the points to insert the needles to ask your body to make the change. Your body does the hard work, we just give it a nudge.
What happens in an acupuncture appointment?
Our appointment lasts for ninety minutes, where we will be asking lots of questions about your health, life style and fertility journey so far.
We will feel your pulse, take a look at your tongue and then you get to enjoy the actual treatment part! This is a chance to rest and have a deep relaxation and most patients fall asleep. The needles normal stay in for around 20-25 minutes. They are very tiny and you will experience a heavy like sensation after they are inserted.
Follow up appointments last for 60 minutes as we will have a shorter chat about your progress since your last appointment.
How often should I come for treatment?
Our fertility acupuncture team recommend weekly sessions for a minimum of 8-12 weeks, some conditions may need longer treatment periods ie: up to six months and some less frequent. You will still benefit from fortnightly acupuncture however the overall treatment time may therefore be longer. You can have acupuncture at any point in your cycle as we will adapt the treatment to your cycle stage.
We offer both individual appointments and packages which work out a little bit more cost effective!
If you are about to undergo IVF imminently we recommend treatment at specific times, please see these here.
What training have we undergone?
Our fertility acupuncture team are all fully licensed to practice acupuncture and belong to a regulatory governing body. We all also have extensive further training in fertility and hold the Advanced Fertility Diploma, the gold standard of fertility training for acupuncturists.
