Hi, I’m Dr Lauren Rockliffe. I’m a Chartered Health Psychologist, Pregnancy Health Coach, and the Director of Bloomwell Pregnancy, which is an online health coaching service. I support women to make healthy lifestyle changes before, during, and after pregnancy. This includes (but is not limited to) making healthy dietary changes, improving sleep, reducing stress, maintaining exercise, or cutting down on alcohol or smoking.
If you’re currently exploring ways to enhance your fertility, you might be feeling increasingly motivated to make other healthy changes in your life. For example, you might be trying to eat a little healthier, to move a little more, or to reduce the amount of alcohol that you’re drinking. It makes sense that during this time you’ll want to do as much as you can to support your fertility and increase your chances of conception. However, this motivation can sometimes drop off once women become pregnant and start to relax. Whilst this is understandable, it’s important to try and maintain these healthy changes throughout your pregnancy, as doing so can enhance your health and wellbeing, reduce the risk of pregnancy-related conditions and complications, and support the development of your baby.
If any of this sounds familiar and you’re finding it challenging to maintain a healthy lifestyle, then health coaching might be for you! In this article, I explain what pregnancy health coaching is, what it involves, and how it could benefit you.
What is health coaching for fertility and pregnancy?
Health coaching for fertility or pregnancy is a way of supporting and empowering women to make healthy lifestyle changes. It helps you to identify your values, to develop your confidence, and equips you with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve your health and wellbeing. Where traditional therapies encourage you to look back and address issues from your past, health coaching helps you to look forward, to set goals, and to think about what you want to achieve in the near future.
What does it involve?
I typically work with women over a three-month period, which is done entirely online. Firstly, I’ll send you an in-depth assessment questionnaire to complete. This provides me with important information about you, your background, and about what you hope to gain from coaching. Next, we’ll have a 90-minute assessment session. This will build on the information you’ve previously provided, allowing me to develop a more in-depth understanding about the areas you’re struggling with and the type of support and guidance that might be helpful for you. You’ll subsequently receive five 45-minute coaching sessions, normally one or two weeks apart. In these sessions, you’ll have space to think about your values and goals, reflect on your progress, and plan strategies to overcome any obstacles you might be facing. In addition to all of this, I’ll provide you with an e-book to support the work we do together in sessions. I’ll also provide ongoing email support throughout your coaching, so if you ever feel a little lost in-between sessions, you can easily reach out to me for some additional guidance.
What are the benefits?
Working together, I will help you gain clarity on your values and what really matters to you in relation to your health. I’ll support you to set achievable goals and to identify the things in your life that might be holding you back from making healthy changes. I’ll hold you accountable to those goals, motivate you, and provide you with a safe, non-judgemental space to share and reflect on your progress, ultimately supporting you to improve your sense of health, wellbeing, and confidence.
