Reflexology is a therapy based on the feet, holding a map of the body which acts as mirror as to what is going on with your body. In areas where you may hold physical or emotional tension or have an existing conditions the ‘reflexes’ can become imbalanced.
By working on the imbalanced reflexes, we encourage the body and mind to return to a place of balance. With regular treatment we hope to see an improvement in symptoms such as pain or irregular cycles. It has shown itself to be a great therapy to support fertility within our clinic.
What happens in a fertility reflexology appointment?
Your first appointment lasts for ninety minutes, where we will be asking lots of questions about your health, life style and fertility journey so far.
Then we will make you comfortable on the couch and start to feel your feet, this is a chance to rest and have a deep relaxation and most patients fall asleep. Pressure and massage will be applied over the feet and to certain ‘reflex’ points, some maybe tender or feel particularly pleasant to have pressure applied.
Follow up appointments last for 60 minutes as we will have a shorter chat about your progress since your last appointment.
How often should I come for reflexology?
As a general guide, we recommend weekly sessions for a minimum of 8-12 weeks, some conditions may need longer treatment periods ie: up to six months and some less frequent. You will still benefit from fortnightly reflexology however the overall treatment time may therefore be longer. You can have reflexology at any point in your cycle as we will adapt the treatment to your cycle stage.
If you are about to undergo fertility treatment imminently we recommend treatment at specific times, please see these here.
Can I have reflexology alongside acupuncture or other therapies?
Yes, we find that reflexology compliments acupuncture and vice versa. Just let us know and we will advise you on how to time your appointments if necessary!
